Sunderland must be looked at in more detail after their excellent start to the Premier League campaign, accordinfg to Micah Richards.

The former Manchester City defender, now pundit, has praised Regis Le Bris’ team but still believes more needs to be said about the Black Cats.

Sunderland have picked up 14 points from their opening eight matches but there is a long way to go yet and tougher fixtures are looming large as we head into November and beyond.

With 30 games remaining, a lot can happen, and Richards has alluded to that when voicing his opinion on what Sunderland have actually brought to the table in their first eight games.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, Richards said, “We need a more detailed look at Sunderland, because we’ve given them a lot of praise, but we haven’t broken down exactly what they do.

“They’ve brought £161m worth of players, 14 players, and they’ve managed to gel so well.

"We had Sunderland struggling because of the amount of players, but the manager has managed to get them all playing.

Le Bris has used a mix of new signings and players already at the club last season and the team has a low average of possession in the Premier League so far

“I still think Sunderland need more of a deep dive,” added Richards.

Richards has been impressed with just how Le Bris has managed such a huge influx of players and his philosophy has worked.

He has found the right mix, balancing the new players with the likes of Trai Hume and Dan Ballard from last season.

Sunderland could get better the more they gel but they have much work to do having only played the likes of Burnley, West Ham, Brentford and Nottingham Forest so far.
