A-Rod Gives Surprising Take On Dodgers-Blue Jays Matchup

The Los Angeles Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays will face off in the 2025 World Series beginning on Friday, and the Dodgers are widely seen as overwhelming favorites to defend their title. The Blue Jays will be coming off an epic, seven-game series win in the ALCS. They’ll be riding high with emotion as they look to dethrone Shohei Ohtani and the mighty Dodgers. While many people are looking at this matchup like a “David vs. Goliath” situation, FOX analyst and former MLB player Alex Rodríguez sees things differently. “For the casual fan out there, I don’t think they understand how balanced and how good Toronto is,” A-Rod said on Monday night following the Blue Jays’ comeback win over the Seattle Mariners in Game 7. Story continues below advertisement “I think everyone understands the Dodgers’ greatness,’cause they’ve been at this level for the last 10 years as a dominant franchise of the sport with the dominant player in Shohei Ohtani.” “But this is not David vs. Goliath,” Rodríguez continued. “This is truly Goliath vs. Goliath, and don’t think Toronto (isn’t) a big market. They have 41 million people in Canada. That’s their fanbase, and they watch, and they watch closely.” “Look, the reason why I think the Blue Jays have a shot is two reasons,” Rodríguez added. “One, this (Dodgers) team is gonna be off for six or seven days. They haven’t faced live pitching (in that span). That’s always something you have to be cautious (about). They have to fly cross-country, and (the Blue Jays are) very tough to beat, and now they’ve got their mojo back, and they’re ready to go.” Story continues below advertisement While starters haven’t been announced for Game 1 yet, the Dodgers are widely expected to roll with Blake Snell and continue onwards into the series with their rotation from the NLCS: Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Tyler Glasnow, and Ohtani in Game 4. Toronto’s Game 1 starter from the ALDS and ALCS, Kevin Gausman, started Game 5 of the ALCS on October 17, going 5 2/3 innings. That should set Gausman up to be rested and available for Game 1 of the World Series, despite him pitching one inning of relief (19 pitches) on Monday.
