Duncan Commentary: Saints should consider giving Tyler Shough a shot

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The Saints’ offensive struggles continued Sunday in their loss to the Chicago Bears, with quarterback Spencer Rattler enduring his worst performance since becoming the starter, one week after his best performance.

Rattler threw three interceptions and was sacked four times as the Saints managed only 14 points in the defeat. He also lost one fumble.

The loss dropped Rattler’s record as a starter to 1-12.

Coach Moore leaves door open for change

Coach Kellen Moore supported Rattler throughout the season and backed him again Monday when asked about his status as the starter. However, Moore left room to make a change if needed.

Tyler Shuck waits as the backup quarterback. The Saints drafted Shuck in the second round, and the team needs to evaluate whether he could be the long-term answer at the position.

MORE SAINTS

While the losses aren’t all Rattler’s fault, his record as a starter has become a concern. Rattler hasn’t played poorly overall, but he also hasn’t elevated the play of his teammates.

The Saints face a decision about their quarterback position as mistakes and losses continue to mount.
