Xabi Alonso does not think Trent Alexander-Arnold will return from injury for Real Madrid to play in their Champions League match against Juventus on Wednesday. The former Liverpool vice-captain is back in training before the match, but has missed their last six games after injuring his hamstring.

During Tuesday's pre-match press conference, Alonso acknowledged that he would update the media with their final report on Saturday. That is the day before they face Barcelona in El Clasico.

Madrid face the Reds at Anfield in a fortnight, a match billed as Alexander-Arnold's return to his boyhood club. The injury sustained in their match against Marseille in mid-September put his involvement in doubt, but the England international seemingly will be fit to feature.

"We're going to take it day by day," Alonso said. "Trent and Carvajal have done some work. Looking ahead to tomorrow, I don't think they'll be ready."

Alexander-Arnold not playing against Juventus will mean he has a maximum of two matches to return before Madrid visit Liverpool. The first is on Sunday against Barcelona, with the second a week on Saturday when they play Valencia.

He has made just five appearances for Madrid, three lasting less than 10 minutes. The right-back started just half of his new club's first four matches of the league season, with Carvajal starting the other two.

Alexander-Arnold made just five substitute appearances in the Premier League last season. However, he played in 49 games across all competitions despite sustaining ankle and hamstring injuries during his final campaign at Anfield.
