Seahawks could be playing their final game without a high-impact starter

The Seattle Seahawks are 4-2 entering Week 7 against a very good (defensively) Houston Texans team. A win is a win, of course, so if Seattle can take the game 3-2, 12s would do it. Beauty doesn't get you to the playoffs. Wins do.

While Seattle has been mostly very good through six games, excepting Week 5's meltdown versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers when Mike Macdonald's defense was missing four starters in the second half, some parts could be even better. That includes inside linebacker.

Ernest Jones IV has been good, but it takes two to be great. Jones' partner appears to be a work in progress. Tyrice Knight got the first chance, but must have lost some faith among the Seattle coaching staff. More recently. Drake Thomas has gotten the reps beside Knight.

Seattle Seahawks projected to make a move for Saints' Demario Davis

That all implies that that maybe the Seahawks are open to making a move at the trade deadline that gifts them another quality off-ball linebacker. The team basically did that in 2024, too. A couple of weeks before the deadline, Seattle moved Jerome Baker to the Tennessee Titans in return for Jones, and then elevated Knight after releasing Tyrel Dodson.

Long-term, Seahawks general manager John Schneider might be thinking of drafting an inside linebacker if Knight isn't working out as well as hoped. In the short-term, though, Schneider might think of working a trade for a player to go next to Jones.

According to our pals at Bleacher Report's Field Gulls, the idea might be to send a 2026 fifth-round pick to the New Orleans Saints for Demario Davis. Davis isn't a long-term option because he is 36 years old, but he is still very productive. In 2025, he has 45 tackles, 24 run stuffs, and seven pressures through seven games.

Davis has always been elite against the run in his long career, and he still has the power and quickness to be productive. Is he an upgrade over Thomas or Knight? Of course. Is a fifth-round selection too much to give up for him? Definitely not, if the Seahawks think they can get to the playoffs.

The other unsung aspect of the move could be that Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak knows what Demario Davis can do. Kubiak didn't coach defense with the New Orleans Saints in 2024, but he was the OC. He knows what Davis is capable of. The whole move seems like a win-win for Seattle.
