Luke Edwards shares what people at Newcastle have now spotted about Alexander Isak at Liverpool

Newcastle United fans are watching on with glee as Alexander Isak continues to struggle for Liverpool.

The 25-year-old is still feeling the effects of his summer actions, with Alexander Isak underperforming for his new club yet again as they lost to Manchester United on Sunday.

The Sweden international has only scored once since his move to Anfield, with his single Liverpool goal coming in the Carabao Cup. Nick Woltemade is outscoring him comfortably, with Newcastle United’s giant German boasting five goals for his new club.

He is loving life on Tyneside, whereas Isak does not look anything like himself.

Alexander Isak ‘looks frustrated’ at Liverpool

That is something that has been noticed within Newcastle United, with the Telegraph’s Luke Edwards sharing what someone who worked ‘closely’ with Alexander Isak has spotted about the forward since his move to Liverpool.

“I was talking to somebody who worked with him closely at Newcastle,” he told BBC’s Premier League Review podcast.

“They’ve obviously been watching and they were talking about his body language and he doesn’t look happy. He doesn’t look sure of himself.

“He looks frustrated. He certainly looks lethargic.”

While Isak has been unbothered by his Newcastle exit, the way it played out has massively hindered his start to life on Merseyside. The £125million man has been lacking sharpness, while right now it is unclear how he fits into Arne Slot’s system alongside the likes of Mo Salah and Hugo Ekitike.

That is not something that will concern Newcastle United, who are focused on getting more out of their own new striker.

Did Newcastle United or Alexander Isak win the transfer saga of the summer?

On the face of it, Newcastle have had the better of the Isak deal. They got a huge fee for a player who wanted out, and replaced him with a striker who has hit the ground running.

However, transfer expert Graeme Bailey has exclusively told Geordie Boot Boys that the situation is not that simplistic.

“In an ideal world, Newcastle would have Isak and Woltemade,” he said.

“Newcastle haven’t won the Isak deal, and they will tell you that. They sold him because the player wanted to move, not because of PSR. There were issues, and Newcastle are not happy about losing Isak. Of course they aren’t.

“They will be happy with how they’ve coped with it. Woltemade has come in and done his job, he’s started very well.

“I don’t think we can judge who has won this deal for a few years.”

While Isak has struggled, Newcastle United have too. Their opening games of the season were hindered by not having a proper striker, which resulted in Eddie Howe’s side dropping key points that could prove to be crucial come May 2026.

Newcastle will be delighted with how Woltemade has stepped into Isak’s role, but will wish the situation could have been resolved much sooner.
