Chelsea defender explains how he’s being like Vincent Kompany to help wonderkid

Tosin Adarabioyo was Chelsea’s chosen player to take the Champions League press conference, and the defender amused everyone with some short and sweet answers.

Asked whether he felt old as the oldest in the squad, the defender drily replied “I feel 28.”

On the subject of the recent spate of red cards, the 28 year old said “I wouldn’t say it’s a problem.”

“We are not worried about it and it won’t continue.”

This pretty much mirrored manager Enzo Maresca’s attempts to play these down as much as possible.

On the subject of the team’s progress so far this season, Tosin was pleased, although he was also pretty clear on how the team can very quickly get better:

“We’re doing well. We miss Cole Palmer. He is our best player. But we’re coping well.”

Despite being back from his calf injury for Saturday’s game against Nottingham Forest, Tosin was benched for Josh Acheampong – a young defender who Tosin said “will be a great player” for Chelsea. Tosin also revealed he had taken it upon himself to coach the youngster in good habits.

“Every day I’m onto him to him to make sure he’s doing the right things. When I saw his age I had people like Vincent Kompany doing the same for me.”

We expect Tosin to start tomorrow night and provide his usual steady experience at the back against Ajax.

One person who won’t be playing tomorrow night is Reece James, who is likely to be rested for the weekend. Enzo Maresca was still asked about him however, and he praised his captain’s improving leadership.

The coach also discussed Jorrel Hato’s progress in adapting to the Premier League.
