Blue Jays join Raptors in rare MLB-NBA comeback history

Toronto has the comeback thing figured out.

The Toronto Blue Jays trailed in their ALCS against the Seattle Mariners in a number of ways. They were down 2-0 in the series, then 3-2 in the series.

Even in Game 7, they were down 3-1 in the seventh inning.

That's when George Springer provided lift-off on a three-run home run to go ahead, 4-3, and eventually win the game and the pennant.

Fittingly, it's not the first time Toronto has done something like this.

The Toronto Raptors of the NBA have also come back from a 2-0 series deficit in the conference finals.

Keerthika Uthayakumar, a stats expert, provided insight on how rare that is with this post on X:

Fun fact: Raptors & Jays are both 1 of 6 teams to come back from down 2-0 in a best-of-seven Conference Finals series in their respective leagues. https://t.co/tu1kOVzZZS

The best omen now for the Blue Jays is that those Raptors went on to win the NBA title.

The Blue Jays haven't played in the World Series since 1993. They did win on that last appearance.

The Raptors are a bit of a mystery team for the season ahead, possessing a lot of talent but not exactly clear how it all fits together.

Toronto sports fans can wait at least a little longer to worry about the basketball, though. First, there's a World Series to try and win after a magnificent ALCS comeback.
