Sandro Tonali, Lewis Hall & Tino Livramento - Newcastle United injury list & expected return dates.

The Magpies’ slow start to the new Premier League season continued at the weekend after losing 2-1 away to Brighton & Hove Albion.

Eddie Howe named an unchanged starting XI from the 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest before the October international break and welcomed back £39million summer signing Jacob Ramsey from injury.

United remained without Yoane Wissa, Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento, while Sandro Tonali is a doubt heading into the game against Benfica due to illness.

We take a look at Newcastle United’s injury list in full and when each player is expected to return, as things stand:

Sandro Tonali

Tonali was absent from Monday’s training session as Newcastle prepared for their Champions League clash against Benfica.

Howe later confirmed: “A bit of illness with Sandro, He’ll be touch and go for the game. We’ll give him every opportunity. He’s such an important player, so we’ll use all the hours we have.”

Expected return date

Benfica (H), 21/10.

Yoane Wissa

Wissa joined from Brentford for £55million on September 1 but just over a week later suffered a knee injury on international duty with the Democratic Republic of Congo. The 29-year-old is yet to make his debut for Newcastle.

Speaking on Friday, Howe said: “Yeah, so we've seen Yoane back on the grass, which is, well, the first time on the grass, which is great to see. And I think his knees reacted pretty well to that work so far. So it will now be a case of trying to step him up gradually.

“Yeah, in terms of timelines, similar to what I said last time, I get confused with the dates as to where we were, but nothing's changed.

“He's been managed by the physio team and the doctors really well so far. He's responded well to the treatment. I think the specialist initially gave him a diagnosis of six to eight weeks and he's on track for that.

“We were obviously trying to work towards the six but it looks like it's going to be more towards the eight, as I said before but there's been no issues. I know there's been a lot of media noise around his injury but a lot of that's been false information. So we're just working towards that timescale.”

Expected return date

Brentford (A), 09/11.

Tino Livramento

Newcastle feared the worst when Livramento was stretchered off with a knee injury during the recent defeat to Arsenal.

Livramento suffered an ACL injury when at Southampton but further assessment has revealed the full-back has avoided a repeat, though will still miss up to eight weeks of action.

What’s been said?

Howe said: “So far, so good, I think. For Tino, he's out of the brace that he was in. Every time I speak to him, he seems positive about his return. So I don't think there'll be any massive changes to the timeframe that he was given. But I think he's moving in the right direction.”

Expected return date

Manchester City (H) 22/11 or Marseille (A) 25/11.

Lewis Hall

Hall felt his hamstring during the 4-0 win over Union Saint-Gilloise in the Champions League.

What’s been said?

Speaking on Friday, Howe said: “Yes, the second scan was good news. There were different scales of time he could be out, it's the shorter time. So we hope he'll be back during this period of games we have before the next international break.

“We don't know exactly when that will be, but we expect him to, if he doesn't suffer any ill effects from anything that he's doing, to be back at some stage. And as I said from the first scan, that might not have been possible.

“So good news, he's such an important player for us and hopefully we can keep him fit.”
