'Would've been a good option': Jason McAteer says Everton should’ve signed £72m Man Utd player…

Everton may need to bring in some January reinforcements and Jason McAteer believes there’s one Manchester United player who’d have really improved the Blues.

The summer window was certainly a busy one for Everton with a whopping nine players making the move to Merseyside.

David Moyes knew the club would see some huge changes over the transfer window given the number of players who left at the end of last season.

A big focus was put on Everton improving their attacking options following another season of struggles in front of goal.

Over the summer, Moyes admitted he was disappointed with Beto who has failed to find any form in the opening months of this season.

Thierno Barry remains a project for Everton but goals are proving a real issue for Moyes.

Moyes was open to signing two strikers over the summer and McAteer feels there is one player already in the Premier League who would greatly improve the current side.

Adding a new striker in the January transfer window could be the priority for the Blues, but McAteer believes it is another Man United striker, in the £72m Rasmus Hojlund, who could have proven a smart addition.

Speaking to Stadium Astro, McAteer thinks the Napoli loanee is a player who could drastically improve Moyes’ options.

“Do you know who I think would have suited them? Hojlund at United,” he said.

“I know he’s gone abroad and that’s sometimes a good move, but he would have been a good option, but again, how much does he get paid? Someone like that who has a point to prove.”

It is believed that Everton are open to signing a striker in January, with players like Richarlison and Gabriel Jesus already mooted.

A player who has proven himself in the Premier League should be exactly what Angus Kinnear is looking for, with the current options leaving a lot to be desired.

Rasmus Hojlund is showing his quality at Napoli

Some inside Everton are excited about Barry’s potential, but the striker is now 23-years-old and has not shown much in his opening months at the club.

Hojlund’s time in the Premier League may have left a lot of questions being unanswered about his own potential.

However, having been loaned out to Napoli over the summer, Hojlund has shown just what he is capable of.

Pat Nevin was not impressed with Beto’s performance against Manchester City at the weekend, which only highlights the need for an upgrade in the summer.

Although early on in the season still, Hojlund is showing he is a player who does possess the quality to improve this starting XI.
