Chris Sutton Backs ‘Brilliant’ Ange Postecoglou Celtic Return

Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton has said he would love to see Ange Postecoglou return to the Hoops if Brendan Rodgers leaves the club at the end of the season.

The pundit believes the Australian remains hugely respected among supporters after transforming the team during his time in charge.

Sutton’s comments come amid growing uncertainty over Rodgers’ long-term future, with his current deal due to expire at the end of the campaign. While the manager has stated he’s open to staying, speculation has intensified following a difficult run of results and tension between the board and fans.

Postecoglou’s name has inevitably resurfaced in discussion, given his success at Celtic and popularity with the supporters. Sutton, who worked closely with the former boss as a media pundit during his time in Scotland, believes a return one day would be warmly received.

He said: (BBC Radio 5 Live), “It could happen, I mean, would I like to see him back? Yeah, eventually, why not? I really enjoyed Angeball.

“Well, I think Brendan will leave at the end of the season – if [Postecoglou] just slots in next season, I would love to see Big Ange back.

“He’s respected at Celtic, the job he did. Brilliant, Angeball, what a brand of football.“

Sutton’s comments reflect the affection still felt for Postecoglou, whose attacking style and man-management left a lasting legacy at Parkhead. His tenure brought excitement, silverware, and a sense of unity that many fans feel has been missing in recent months.

While a return remains purely hypothetical, the idea of Postecoglou leading Celtic again clearly appeals to many within the support, especially with the club’s current struggles under scrutiny.

For now, attention remains on Rodgers and his efforts to turn things around, but Sutton’s words capture a growing feeling among fans that the magic of “Angeball” is something they would gladly see return to Celtic Park in the near future.
