Sean Dyche is "unlikely to get a big transfer budget" in the January window after taking the reins at Nottingham Forest.
Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis has made the former Everton boss his third permanent manager of the season already, after sacking Nuno Espírito Santo in September and replacing him with former Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou, whose tenure lasted only 39 days.
Football Insider has outlined that Dyche, who has been out of work since he was sacked by Everton earlier this year, will have to largely work with the squad he inherited from Postecoglou for the remainder of his first season in charge at the City Ground.
Dyche Will Have Small January Transfer Budget at Forest
Everton boss Sean Dyche on the touchline
Dyche has been appointed as Postecoglou's successor in the coming days, on a contract running until the summer of 2027, and he arrives with Forest sat in the relegation zone following a disastrous start to the Premier League season.
Forest finished seventh in the top flight last term under Nuno, and their resolute defensive record was one of the largest contributing factors to their success, but this season they have leaked too many goals.
Dyche's responsibility will be to steady the ship, with Forest possessing the joint-third worst defensive record in the Premier League so far this season in terms of goals conceded, with 15 shipped in just eight outings.
However, the 54-year-old will not be awarded a substantial budget in the approaching mid-season transfer window to build the Forest squad in his image, and must work with the players already at the club. Unless, as Football Insider add, Forest 'offload one of their stars' mid-season.
Thankfully for Dyche, he inherits a squad littered with talent - on paper at least - which has not been performing to its full potential so far this season, with many of the summer recruits yet to hit the ground running in Nottingham.
Forest spent substantially in the summer transfer window, with an outlay in the region of £200m, which saw the likes of James McAtee arrive from Manchester City, Dan Ndoye sign from Bologna and Omari Hutchinson join from relegated Ipswich Town.
Forest's club statement on X explained that the club's hierarchy appointed Dyche due to his "perfect blend of character, tactical acumen and proven achievement", and the Nottingham local will have to exhibit all of those characteristics to help Forest climb up the top flight table.
However, it may be a baptism of fire for Dyche for his first game in charge, with the difficult test of Portuguese giants FC Porto ahead in the Europa League on Thursday evening.
