Watch: Barcelona open scoring against Olympiakos through Lamine Yamal-Fermin Lopez combination

Barcelona are in need of a performance against Olympiakos in their third Champions League game of the season, following a concerning one against Girona. The Blaugrana have certainly started in the right fashion.

The Greek giants started reasonably well, attacking with menace in the opening minutes, but it did not take long for the Blaugrana to respond. Marcus Rashford kneed an Alejandro Balde cross over the bar, but just moments later, Lamine Yamal and Fermin Lopez would combine to give Barcelona the lead.

Fermin Lopez gives Barcelona the lead

With just seven minutes on the clock, a move started by Balde found Fermin Lopez with space to break into, and he in turn got Lamine Yamal in behind the defence. When the 18-year-old got halfway around the Olympiakos goalkeeper, Lopez was on hand to finish the job.

The Blaugrana will be keen to avoid a repeat of their weekend game though, where they also took an early lead. Pedri’s goal looked just reward for their domination against Girona, but after Axel Witsel equalised not long after, the game swung out of Barcelona’s control.

Barcelona’s defending under the microscope

While Barcelona’s system is based on outscoring their opponents to a certain degree, Hansi Flick would no doubt be delighted to see his side keep a clean sheet ahead of El Clasico against Real Madrid on Sunday. The German coach has been critical of his side’s pressing rather than their offside trap, but either way, the pressure is on to work out the kinks before facing an in-form Kylian Mbappe.

Flick must fix Barcelona's defence.

Should the Catalan giants be able to salt away the game early on though too, then Flick will no doubt be keen to rest the likes of Pedri, Lopez and Lamine Yamal ahead of their trip to the Santiago Bernabeu this weekend.
