Aston Villa could be in the driving seat to secure the signing of a La Liga gem

Things can turn around very quickly in football. Comfort can very quickly change to a club in crisis, or vice versa, to the dismay of fans and all those associated with a football club.

Villa’s attacking unit appears to be finding its feet once again. England star Morgan Rogers bagged his first domestic goal of the season at Spurs to follow on from his first for the Three Lions against Wales, while Ollie Watkins also scored for his nation after ending his goal-scoring drought against Fulham before the break. Another highly-rated attacking star may be set to move to Villa Park to play alongside the pair in January.

Aston Villa ‘best positioned’ to sign ‘disappointed’ Takefusa Kubo

A player who has been in demand for some time now, it appears that we may finally see Real Sociedad and Japan winger Takefusa Kubo make the move to the Premier League in January. According to Fichajes, Aston Villa are ‘best positioned’ to secure his signature.

The 24-year-old is reported to be ‘disappointed’ with Real Sociedad’s project, seeing his situation with the club as ‘unsustainable’ as he fears wasting the prime years of his career, with the Basque outfit currently sat in the relegation zone in La Liga.

The report continues to say that the Premier League ‘tempts’ Kubo, who could fit in perfectly with the ‘dynamic and experienced winger’ desired by Villa. A winter move could be on the cards, with Sociedad already informed of the player’s intention to leave. With the 46-cap Japanese international at a crossroads in his career, Villa could swoop to secure a signing which would remedy the lack of natural wingers in Emery’s squad.

Kubo has been touted for a move to Villa Park in the past, and was linked with various English clubs in the summer including Everton, who were put off by Sociedad’s €60 million (£52m) asking price. But with the player demanding an exit, he might be available for a cut-price fee in January.

Villans could use January market to great effect once again

Aston Villa have been one of the great winners of the January transfer window in recent seasons, and that could be the case once again if Emery’s side can secure a deal for in-demand winger Kubo, who has great pedigree having been on the books at both Barcelona and Real Madrid, a very rare fate.

Last January, the Villans splashed the cash and dished out some hefty loan wages as Marcus Rashford, Marco Asensio, Donyell Malen and Axel Disasi came in. The previous year in 2024, an even greater gem was found as Rogers arrived in the winter window. Previous notable Villa signings in January include Darren Bent, Ashley Young, Tyrone Mings and Lucas Digne.

Kubo could soon become the next to add to the list. What has the player said about the situation? When asked about his future recently, “I have a contract, but you never know”, was the Japanese’s response.
