The New England Patriots are on a roll right now, as their 31-13 victory over the Tennessee Titans in Week 7 was their fourth straight win. While everyone is playing their part for the Patriots, the guy who is undoubtedly leading the charge is second-year quarterback Drake Maye. After an encouraging rookie campaign, Maye has blossomed into a superstar in real time. Through seven games, he has 1,744 yards and 12 touchdowns passing, while also rushing for 200 yards and another pair of scores. Furthermore, Maye’s completion percentage of 75.2% and 116.4 passer rating are both tops in the league through seven weeks. As a result of his strong play, Maye has begun to emerge as a serious MVP candidate across the league. And yet, while Maye knows there’s a lot of buzz and chatter surrounding him currently, he recently shared how head coach Mike Vrabel is helping keep him grounded amid his star turn. “One of the best things that Coach Vrabel was saying … there’s stuff that’s interesting vs. important,” Maye said on “WEEI Afternoons.” “I think all that stuff is interesting and it’s cool to be in those graphics and whatever, but I think what’s important is to try to keep it going, keep on winning games.” For as important as Maye has been, it’s clear that Vrabel is the architect of the Patriots’ sudden rise. In his first year as the team’s head coach, Vrabel has completely transformed the team’s culture, and the result is a football team that is going out and winning on a regular basis. The Pats will look to earn their fifth straight win when they take on the Cleveland Browns at Gillette Stadium in Week 8.
