Jayson Tatum is one of the most prolific scorers in today's NBA.
With his devastating ACL injury keeping him out for the majority of the season, the Boston Celtics will need players to pick up his slack.
Most of that falls on Jaylen Brown, but the supporting cast will have to chip in as well.
One guy that ClutchPoints' Jedd Pagaduan believes can make a major leap and average 24 points per game is not someone you would expect.
“Nonetheless, (Payton) Pritchard has shown the ability to get points in bunches, and with the high-usage void left by Tatum's departure, the Celtics' lead guard is about to cook,” Pagaduan said Sunday.
“Now, it's worth mentioning that Pritchard only averaged 14.3 points per game last year. That number increased to 19.0 in nine games without Tatum last year and 21.7 in three games as a starter last year. Getting to 24 on a nightly basis will be difficult for someone who's never had an opportunity to do so in the past.
“But this is uncharted territory for Pritchard, and given the dearth of offensive options on the roster, Pritchard will have all the opportunity in the world to put up numbers.”
Payton Pritchard may not even be in the starting lineup, which would make this prediction even crazier.
Last year, he won the Sixth Man of the Year Award and averaged 14.3 points per game on 41% from three.
24 points a game is a feat not many can complete, and as a matter of fact, only 16 players did that last year.
Opponents' defensive focus will be mainly on Jaylen Brown and Derrick White, but don’t let Pritchard fly under the radar, whether he averages 24 points or not.
