Report: Ross Wilson has already idenfitied two things to do at Newcastle

Ross Wilson’s priorities as Newcastle United’s new sporting director have now emerged and it’s good news for Eddie Howe.

After what felt like an eternity, Newcastle United appointed Wilson as their new sporting director earlier this month.

Howe was pleased with Wilson’s appointment at Newcastle and the fact he’s arrived well before the January transfer window opens can only be a positive.

That should, in theory at least, allow the Scotsman time to settle in behind the scenes at St James’ Park before major recruitment decisions need to be made.

Luckily for the Newcastle United manager, Wilson has already identified two internal deals he’d like to get signed, sealed and delivered.

Ross Wilson ready to offer Sven Botman and Tino Livramento new contracts

According to talkSPORT, Wilson has put contract talks with Sven Botman and Tino Livramento to the top of his to-do list.

Botman’s deal expires in the summer of 2027, while Livramento is under contract until 2028.

Still, as leading members of the Newcastle United squad, they have been linked with moves away from the club.

The report adds that Newcastle have taken a “not for sale” stance over the duo, with Wilson keen to extend their respective stays on Tyneside.

Eddie Howe will be delighted with Ross Wilson’s plan of action at Newcastle

Howe wants Botman to sign a new contract at Newcastle and would surely hate to lose a player of Livramento’s quality.

Indeed, Howe had to deal with the distraction of the Alexander Isak saga all summer. He could do without another circus next year, so extending their contracts should be of the utmost importance.

Sandro Tonali is another player to address on that front too and hopefully the club can reach an agreement with him.

For all the talk of potential signings in the January transfer window, Newcastle need to get their house in order behind the scenes.
