Man Utd can now sign 24yo German star for £43m in January

Manchester United could sign a new defensive midfielder when the transfer window reopens.

The Red Devils were keen on landing a holding midfielder last summer, but they could not secure a suitable solution before the deadline.

Brighton & Hove Albion’s Carlos Baleba was initially their prime target, but they were put off by the £115 million valuation for the 21-year-old.

Stuttgart’s Angelo Stiller was also linked with the club, and Sky Germany claim that Stuttgart have internally set a €50m (£43m) asking price.

United continue to be mentioned as one of the German’s suitors.

Stiller has a release clause worth €40m (£35m) in his contract, but Stuttgart can eliminate that option by paying €2m (£1.7m) to the midfielder.

United should make January raid for Stiller

The 24-year-old has made good progress in the past few years at Stuttgart. He has now entered the prime of his career and has made a bright start this term.

Stiller has completed 90 percent of his passes in the Bundesliga while winning 54 percent of his duels. He has made close to five recoveries per appearance.

The German is not a tough tackler like Casemiro or Manuel Ugarte, but he makes up for the same with his positioning, recovery pace and playmaking ability.

The Red Devils are yearning for a player of his calibre in their squad. At £43m, he would represent a bargain signing as he is only 24 and should get better with age.

Baleba has been mentioned as United’s dream target, but Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler has clearly stated that he won’t be allowed to leave until next summer.

In our view, United should make a winter approach to bring Stiller to Old Trafford. The club could still revive their pursuit of Baleba at the end of the campaign.
