Scott McTominay has become the latest player to send Manchester United a message as he continued his form in the Champions League on Tuesday evening.

Following Marcus Rashford's display in the competition for Barcelona - scoring two goals and winning a penalty - it was then McTominay's turn to shine. The former Manchester United star scored the opening goal for Napoli against PSV, heading the ball into the net.

He had missed Napoli's 1-0 defeat to Torino last week due to an ankle issue, but that problem now appears to be behind him.

McTominay has continued to make a name for himself in Italy following his transfer from Old Trafford last summer. Speaking in a press conference, manager Antonio Conte spoke highly of the midfielder, saying: "It's very simple, his status has changed.

"He was the best player in the league last season. When he arrived, he wasn't being used much at Manchester United. He came in as an underdog with something to prove. Now his status is different and the attention he receives, even from opponents preparing to face him, is completely different. He's seen in a new light now. It's as simple as that.

"Last year, he adapted to everything, playing with two strikers, 4-3-3, but now opponents look at him differently, and naturally, they make tactical adjustments to contain him."

The former Reds' academy product has proven to be a big miss at Old Trafford since a €30million switch to Conte's team. United have struggled for goals this season, with both Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko sharing two goals each - as well as Bruno Fernandes

The Scotsman was named Serie A's Best Player of the Year last season after playing a key role in Napoli's league-winning campaign. He scored 13 goals in 39 appearances across all competitions as Napoli finished the season one point ahead of nearest rivals Inter Milan.
