'Suddenly peaking' Chiefs continue climb in latest power rankings

The NFL is on notice because the Kansas City Chiefs appear to be just warming up for their assault on the Super Bowl in 2025.

After a 0-2 start, the Chiefs have found their stride of late, winning four of their last five, which coincidentally has happened as the offense has gotten healthier.

Now with a 4-3 record and seemingly having their groove back, the Chiefs feel like the "Chiefs" again, and that spells trouble for the rest of the NFL.

And for NFL.com's Eric Edholm, in his weekly power rankings, the Chiefs, again, continue to ascend, this time moving up six spots to No. 3.

“If the Chiefs' record were a hair better, I'd have considered them for a top-two spot after the 31-0 beatdown of the rival Raiders,” Edholm writes. “The schedule stiffens considerably, and the big showdown in Buffalo is only a couple Sundays away, but the Chiefs are suddenly peaking, and Patrick Mahomes is again an MVP favorite.”

Chiefs face crucial fortnight in playoff race

A banged-up Washington Commanders team, and then the ultimate AFC showdown with the Buffalo Bills looms for the Chiefs before their bye.

Already over .500, Kansas City has the chance to really plant its playoff flag in the ground over the next two weeks. The Commanders just gave up 44 points to the Dallas Cowboys, and with the Chiefs' offense rolling, who knows what Patrick Mahomes and Co. could do.

Then the Bills, who are wobbly right now, are next, and while we know Buffalo always beats the Chiefs in the regular season, this one might be a little different if the momentum of both teams continues in the same way.

Once thought to be out of the playoff race, now, Kansas City appears better equipped than most to go on a run that might ultimately culminate in another deep playoff run.

And the next two games could set them up nicely to do just that.
