Erling Haaland and Bernardo Silva scored the goals in Spain to make it seven points from a possible nine at the start of the league phase of the Champions League.
That also extends our ongoing unbeaten run to nine matches across all competitions, comprising of seven wins and two draws.
Speaking in his post-match press conference, Guardiola says he feels his team are returning to the levels that saw us win so many major honours before last season.
“If you analyse the first half and some moments in the second, we created some good chances,” he said.
“We made a good performance. I know the Spanish people know that Villarreal is a top, top team.
“I know how difficult it is to come here and I have the feeling things are coming back to what we were in the past.”
