The Giants blew a 19-0 lead in a loss to the Denver Broncos last Sunday. Despite this, ESPN’s Adam Schefter still believes they could make a playoff run if they maintain their recent offensive momentum behind rookies Jaxson Dart and Cam Skattebo.
On ‘The Adam Schefter Podcast’ released Tuesday, Schefter was bullish on the Giants despite the disappointing loss. He pointed to how effective the offense has been with rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart and rookie running back Cam Skattebo, saying their presence could lead to the Giants sneaking into the playoffs.
“I got to tell you something, they would be a player for the playoff race,” Schefter said. “At 2-5, they still might be able to do it. These guys have enough swag with these rookies, Jaxson Dart and Cam Skattebo, that they could make a playoff push. But now we’re going to remember this as one of the great gag jobs in NFL history and who’s going to be held accountable for it over time.”
“It’s just a very disappointing loss for a team that I think is on the fringes of being really good,” Schefter continued. “By the way, they’re doing it without Malik Nabers, who I would say is probably their best player. Can you imagine this team with Malik Nabers? Wow.”
The NFC is shaping up to be a wide-open conference for playoff contention. After seven weeks of play, the Giants are currently three games behind the Los Angeles Rams, who hold the seventh and final playoff spot in the NFC.
Schefter said to stay on pace to even have a shot at the postseason, everything hinges on Sunday’s game against the Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.
“If somehow they go in and beat the Eagles again after they handed it to the Eagles a couple weeks back, that would be quite a statement and that would put them back into making a run for a playoff spot,” Schefter said. “If they go to 2-6, it’s going to be really tough to make the playoffs.”
