Pep Guardiola on Nico Gonzalez injury concern and Rico Lewis’ performance after Man City beat Villarreal

**Pep Guardiola says he is hopeful that midfielder Nico Gonzalez has not suffered a bad injury in the win over Villarreal.**

Goals from Erling Haaland and Bernardo Silva gave [City a 2-0 win in Spain](https://hayters.com/lewis-shines-as-haaland-helps-fire-man-city-to-victory-over-villarreal/).

But the only negative from the evening was Gonzalez being forced off with an injury shortly before the hour mark.

Guardiola does not think it is anything too bad though.

“It was a knock on his foot,” the City boss told TNT Sports. “Hopefully it’s nothing.”

Rico Lewis also impressed for City in the victory having struggled for game time this season and Guardiola praised the impact of the youngster.

He said: “I’m pretty sure that 90% of the people when they saw Rico \[Lewis\] line up said, ‘What is the reason why?!’ And I love that player. These types of players, I adore them!

“Defensively, offensively, he’s beyond intelligent. And his movement against teams that make defensive zonal marking, he knows perfectly when and how and where he has to move. I’m really pleased for his game.”
