October 22 – The Football Association and Lancashire Police have both been alerted that Burnley midfielder Hannibal Mejbri spat toward Leeds United supporters during Saturday’s 2-0 win at Turf Moor.

The 22-year-old Tunisian international came off the bench late in the game and proceeded to get booked following a confrontation with Leeds defender Gabriel Gudmundsson, and just minutes later, the alleged spitting incident occurred near the Leeds end, bringing immediate complaints from fans, prompting the FA to begin reviewing video evidence.

Lancashire Police confirmed it is “aware of an alleged incident involving a Burnley player during the second half” and is “working with Burnley Football Club to establish the facts.”

This is not the first time Mejbri has made unwanted headlines. Earlier this year, while playing for Burnley in the Championship, he was sent off for stamping on the stomach of Stoke City’s Junior Tchamadeu. His manager, Scott Parker, and no stranger himself when it came to going in ‘hard’, called the incident “an outrageous display of a lack of discipline,” adding that the midfielder had “let the team down.”

Taken together, these incidents paint a picture of a fiery young talent whose passion teeters on the edge.
