Jets QB change on the horizon: ‘Something isn’t jiving’ with Justin Fields

It appears the New York Jets are planning to make a change at quarterback.

Justin Fields was benched at halftime in the Jets’ 13-6 loss to the Carolina Panthers as New York fell to 0-7 for the third time in franchise history.

While coach Aaron Glenn hasn’t decided who will start in Week 8 against the Cincinnati Bengals, he is moving toward naming Tyrod Taylor QB1, according to ESPN’s Rich Cimini.

“It’s hard when you have a quarterback with the rating that we’ve got. He has the ability, but something is not jiving,” Jets owner Woody Johnson told reporters. “If you look at any head coach with a quarterback like that, you are going to see similar results across the league. You have to play consistently at that position, and that’s what we’re going to try to do for the remainder of the season.”

Fields signed a two-year contract with the Jets in the offseason after spending 2024 with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He had a strong performance in Week 1 against his former team, but hasn’t been able to continue that momentum.

The 26-year-old’s 32.1 total quarterback rating ranks 31st among 33 passers.

Despite New York’s struggles, Johnson continues to have faith in Glenn.

“I see the way he handles the room. If I were a player, I’d respond to him because he’s the real deal,” Johnson said. “No B.S. No second agendas. What you’re hearing is the truth, and a lot of times players don’t get the truth. They get a lot of gobbledygook.”
