Liam Millar admits his stunning goal after just six minutes in the 2-1 win over Leicester City left him feeling emotional, as he marked his first start in 12 months in style.

The Canadian winger rattled in an unstoppable shot from Joe Gelhardt's pass to set City on their way to a deserved success against the Foxes, their third victory in a row.

Gelhardt made it 2-0 later in the half, and in truth, the Tigers should have had it sewn up before the break, but the Foxes dragged themselves back into it midway through the second period through Aaron Ramsey's wonderful strike, though it wasn't enough, and the hosts held on.

For Millar, his electric first-half display was capped with the goal it warranted, almost a year to the day since he suffered his ACL injury early on against Burnley on October 23 last year.

It's been a long and difficult road back for Millar, who has been building up his minutes in recent games and capped a fine cameo at Birmingham City on Saturday with a terrific assist for Gelhardt's winning strike.

When asked by Hull Live to sum up his feelings, Millar simply said: "Great," before going on to admit he was surprised he ended up staying on the pitch for the full 90-plus minutes.

"Honestly, I didn't know how long I was going to play, so, I'm just happy to get 90 under my belt and out of the way, another tick off the box. I feel great. It was a great game, I feel great resilience to get that result. I honestly thought I saw Joel (Ndala) was coming on (on 85 minutes), so I literally ran to the halfway line so I could walk off the pitch and wasn't coming off.

"I was like, 'Oh, OK', but no, that's as long as I've played in, I don't even know how long. I don't know the last time I played 90, so I was obviously tired, but at the end of the day, I didn't come off, so I put my head down, dug deep, and I just tried to work as hard as I can, so we can seek out the result. I was just running about, really, at the end.

"It was obviously a great team goal as well. I think Joff (Gelhardt) did really well. When I saw Joff run down the line, I held back because he doesn't really chip it to the back post, so I just held back waiting for something to fall and when I saw 'Tree' (Matt Crooks) slip, everything just kind of slowed down and I think I knew as soon as the ball came to my foot, it was going to go in, so, really happy, really pleased.

"It's been a long road for me. It was a great moment, a little bit emotional at the time, a great moment, and I'm really pleased. It was just one of those moments where it just fell to me, and I was in the right place at the right time. It just kind of slowed down, and I think I was really calm, really composed, just felt really calm in the moment, and I just put it away. It's been a long road for me, so it was a great moment. At the end of the day, I just want us to win. I want to keep this going, keep the streak going, so I'm just happy to help the team as much as I can."
