Texans make surprising decision on coach amid major struggles

The Houston Texans have struggled mightily on offense this season, but it doesn’t sound like the team will be making a coaching change to try to remedy the problem.

So far this season, the Texans rank just 23rd in the league in total yards and 21st in points per game – disappointing numbers for a team led by C.J. Stroud, who put up historically great numbers during his first season in the league.

Despite the struggles this season, however, head coach DeMeco Ryans and the team have decided to stick with current offensive coordinator Nick Caley.

“We’re pressing forward with everybody that we have,” Ryans said this week via DJ Bien-Aime of [ESPN](https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/46676190/texans-coach-demeco-ryans-no-plan-make-change-oc). “We’re collectively all in this together.”

This decision is somewhat surprising considering the team is actually performing worse this season than they did under offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik, who was fired for his performance.

While he did not deny that the team has struggled on offense, Ryans was willing to take the blame himself.

“It all starts with me,” Ryans said. “So, you guys want to point the finger at somebody, put it on me. That’s my job, and ultimately, it’s my job to get it fixed. So that’s how it’ll be, but we’re rolling on what we have, and we got to just all do better. Got to coach you better. We got to play better. We got to execute better on game day. And look, as bad as it seems, I tell the guys at the end of the day, we’re still one possession from getting that game.”

We’ll have to see whether or not the team can get the offense going in the right direction in the coming weeks.
