After parting ways with future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers following last season, the New York Jets have been far worse at the quarterback position this season. However, that doesn’t mean team owner Woody Johnson has any regrets about the decision to part ways with Rodgers.
The Jets signed Justin Fields during the offseason to serve as their starting quarterback after deciding to part ways with Rodgers. To say that Fields has struggled this season would be putting it mildly.
The former first-round pick is completing just 63.7 percent of his passes this season and has failed to account for more than 50 passing yards in half of his starts this season, including his last two games. The team is winless so far this season with Fields as a starter.
During a recent interview, Johnson was pretty candid in his disappointment with Fields this season.
“It’s hard when you have a quarterback with a rating that he’s got,” Johnson said of Fields, referring to his quarterback rating.
“If we can just complete a pass, it would look good,” Johnson added.
Meanwhile, Rodgers has been thriving with the Pittsburgh Steelers, averaging more than 200 passing yards and two touchdowns per game.
Despite the team’s current quarterback predicament and Rodgers’ success elsewhere, however, Johnson made it pretty clear that he has no regrets about releasing Rodgers.
“I never look back,” Johnson said via Rich Cimini of [ESPN](https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/46673558/jets-owner-defends-coach-glenn-blames-winless-start-qb-fields). “You have to look forward to football. Even when you cut players, they could be a Hall of Famer. You just never know. But Aaron’s playing great now. He’s in a situation that’s working for him.”
Still, it’s obvious that the team would like to see some better performances from their quarterback.
