Si Ferry wants Ange Postecoglou back at Celtic as he 'can't watch' Brendan Rodgers' side

Brendan Rodgers has a massive week ahead of him.

After a poor performance and defeat against Dundee, Celtic now face a European tie against Sturm Graz and a top-of-the-table clash against Hearts in a defining week early in their season.

Ange Postecoglou, on the other hand, has just been sacked for the second time already this year. After joining Nottingham Forest just months after his departure from Tottenham, he failed to win any of his eight games in charge.

The Aussie has already been replaced by Sean Dyche, having been sacked just moments after leaving the pitch after their defeat to Chelsea at the weekend.

Postecoglou is already being tipped for a return to Celtic. And for Si Ferry, it’s a no-brainer.

Si Ferry on Ange Postecoglou replacing Brendan Rodgers at Celtic

Rodgers spoke of feeling ’empty’ after a disappointing summer transfer window. Celtic were left short on attacking options, and Rodgers can’t fully be blamed for this.

But his comments about being given the keys to a ‘Honda Civic’ have been criticised.

With the Hoops five points behind Hearts at top of the table, resources aren’t really a valid excuse when it comes to league matters.

And speaking on Open Goal with Paul Slane, Ferry was discussing Rodgers and Postecoglou, and what he would do if he was in charge of Celtic.

“Is he trying to leave?” Ferry was asked.

He replied: “It looked like it to me with that half. But he’ll see out the season. Here’s a question though – if Celtic lose to Hearts, should they be looking to change the manager?

“There goes timing as well, Ange has just become available as well. If you get the chance to get the big man back, mate, I’m all-in.”

“If you’re in the boardroom on Monday, what decision are you making?” He was asked again by Slane.

Ferry said: “I’m phoning the big man and saying, ‘get back up here now.’ 100%. Best football I’ve seen at Celtic since I joined them.

“Went to Celtic at 12, Ange is the best football I’ve seen. I think he’s the perfect SPL manager for them. In Europe, you’re going to take a couple of doings, but in terms of SPL, I’d take him back in a minute, mate.

“That’s what I want to watch Celtic play like. Attacking, fast football. Aggressive. Not that [Dundee performance]. Can’t watch that.”

We have seen Rodgers’ sides produce excellent football in the past – should he be getting more out of his current squad?

How much to blame is Brendan Rodgers at Celtic?

The Hoops have failed to score on six occasions already this season. In the Premiership, Hibernian, Dundee United and Motherwell have all outscored them.

Regardless of squad situation, this is not excusable, with attacking options such as Daizen Maeda, Kelechi Iheanacho and Sebastian Tounekti available.

On the other hand, the side has lost Nicolas Kuhn, Adam Idah and Kyogo Furuhashi this year. This is a lot of goals, and not easy to replace.

The club’s attempts to strengthen the squad this summer were underwhelming at best. Unless the transfer process changes, these issues are likely to continue, regardless of manager.
