Only PSR paused Aston Villa lunge – Newcastle United also in the mix

FC Porto’s Samuel Omorodion Aghehowa, usually known in Portugal as just Samu, has been linked with a multitude of Premier League clubs in recent years. Aston Villa were keen in the summer and it’s thought they still hold their interest, along with Newcastle United.

Porto travel to England today ahead of their UEFA Europa League match against crisis-club Nottingham Forest. Sean Dyche is their latest manager and has the unusual prospect of facing a European match.

Samu has eight goals from nine matches so far this season and is expected to play against Nottingham Forest. During that match he’ll have a chance to impress his suitors and it’s likely Premier League clubs will send officials.

Wednesday’s edition of A Bola reports it was only FFP (they’ll mean PSR), and related financial rules, which paused an Aston Villa lunge in the summer. Unai Emery’s side were keen, they just couldn’t work the finances. Newcastle United are also said to have been in contact.

Samu has €100m release clause

Whilst Chelsea and Tottenham have been linked recently, A Bola don’t appear to take this interest so seriously as Aston Villa and Newcastle United.

Samu is protected by a €100m release clause clause but the 21-year-old would likely be allowed to leave for less.
