Back in September, ASRomaLive linked Leeds United with Lorenzo Pellegrini and Piotr Zielinski.
The Italian was mentioned more prominently as a target due to his uncertain future at AS Roma. Now, talk around the Poland international is also growing.
Calciomercato.it look at possible outgoings from Inter Milan in January.
They note that Zielinski is a ‘prime candidate’ to depart. The 31-year-old is said to be popular at Leeds United for a January transfer.
His exit would come as a welcome boost for Inter’s finances. This is because the midfielder earns €4.5m per season (after tax!), which is the sixth-highest salary at the club. So far, he hasn’t justified that wage.
On top of that, he arrived at the San Siro on a free transfer after a successful spell at Napoli.
His contract at Inter runs until 2028. Leeds United will have to pay a significant fee and this will hand Inter a solid capital profit. They will use the amount earned from the sale to bolster their backline.
So far in his stint at the Nerazzurri, Zielinski has struggled to impress.
Whilst Inter and the Italian may want to push the idea of a Leeds United move, the Whites would surely be cautious. In addition that €4.5m a year after tax is the headline issues – both for Inter Milan paying it and Leeds United or anyone else wanting to go anywhere near it.
