As Nottingham Forest’s third manager of the season gets to work at the City Ground, three of our writers have delivered their verdicts on the appointment of Sean Dyche, the sacking of Ange Postecoglou and the man at the top, owner Evangelos Marinakis.

Postecoglou barely had time to unpack in a new apartment when he was brutally axed after just 39 days in charge of the Reds.

He had joked prior to Forest’s 3-0 defeat to Chelsea that perhaps he should have stayed in temporary digs and he wasn’t wrong.

Dyche will not have that problem as he already lives in the area, but he does inherit a team desperately in need of kickstarting their campaign.

Here, two of our chief sports writers, The Mirror’s Andy Dunn and The Daily Star’s Jeremy Cross, join NottinghamshireLive’s Reds writer Sarah Clapson in having their say on it all.

Andy Dunn, Mirror Chief Sports Writer

A lot of observers have been quick to point out that Postecoglou’s overall recent record has not been good. And that is correct - he has won only three of his last 19 Premier League matches.

Dyche? Well, he has won, er, three of his last 19 Premier League matches. The laughable thing about Marinakis dismissing a manager after five Premier League games is that the new manager’s first demand was probably to sort out the pay-off clause.

Not exactly a great way to start. But completely understandable. The new manager is coming to a place where the owner is waiting for you after most matches. On the pitch or in the tunnel.

But the new manager is coming to a great club, with great fans, and a very good squad. That is why he has every chance of succeeding.

A bout of common sense has infiltrated the thought process of Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis.

In just over a month, Marinakis has gone from 'Captain Chaos' to 'Captain Sensible', in terms of appointing Ange Postecoglou, then replacing him with Sean Dyche.

Postecoglou was a gamble which blew up in the face of Marinakis. But the Greek has now wiped the egg off, and made a decision which should turn Forest into solid competition in the Premier League again.

Dyche might be a pragmatic manager. But he is also one with a wealth of experience in the top flight, who can get the best out of the talent at his disposal, with a style of play which suits the team he has taken charge of.

In short, he's a bit like Nuno Espírito Santo. Dyche is not daft. He's engineered a contract that runs until 2027, guaranteeing him significant compensation should Marinakis do what he tends to do best, and decide to fire another manager.

The problem Dyche will have is this. Having secured European qualification last season, Nuno set the bar high. But it remains an unrealistic one, and Marinakis cannot expect this to become the norm under future managers like Dyche.

Ange Postecoglou looked like the wrong fit Trentside almost from the start. His Europa League triumph with Tottenham Hotspur counted for little when he couldn’t oversee a win for toffee with Forest.

Postecoglou’s appointment was a mistake. Evangelos Marinakis got that one badly wrong.

The Reds owner hasn’t made too many errors when it comes to managerial calls during his time at the helm, though. And by swiftly axing the Australian, there was an admission he had blundered.

In that sense, the club’s statement announcing Dyche’s arrival is telling. There is mention of how Dyche’s ethos aligns with ‘the current squad’s attributes’. In other words, the playing style Postecoglou tried to implement was too much, too soon.

Dyche will go back to basics. He will get Forest being hard to beat again, much the same as Nuno Espirito Santo did last season.
