‘You’d expect’ – TalkSPORT pundit warns Leeds United star must step up vs West Ham now

Leeds United are under some pressure ahead of hosting West Ham at Elland Road on Friday night. A run of one win in seven and back-to-back Premier League defeats have dented some of their early-season confidence and brought them back down to earth.

Daniel Farke is facing the heat after his side’s tame 2-0 defeat against relegation rivals Burnley at Turf Moor on Saturday. There are suggestions that the German could be under serious pressure to lose his job if his team suffer another defeat on Friday night against the Hammers.

However, West Ham are also in a more terrible run of form and are coming into the game at Elland Road on the back of a disastrous 2-0 defeat at home against Brentford on Monday night.

They have not lost at Elland Road since 2005, but Leeds are still being backed to win all three points against a struggling Hammers side despite the home side’s recent struggles.

Simon Jordan urges Leeds United star Dominic Calvert-Lewin to step up

Calvert-Lewin has scored just once this season in the Premier League. However, Leeds have created more chances for him to get on the score sheet in recent games.

The former Everton striker has been guilty of missing several chances, and Simon Jordan believes that if he can get back on the score sheet on Friday night, Leeds will beat West Ham.

He insisted that Leeds should be beating a struggling West Ham side at home this week, and the London club will be more than happy to leave Elland Road with a draw.

“You’ve got to say, it’s at Elland Road, you’d expect Leeds to win”, Jordan said on talkSPORT.

“If Calvert-Lewin can eventually score a goal, then it is Leeds’ match to win.

“If Nuno goes up there, locks them up, and gets a point, he’ll be happily coming back down the M1 in a good frame of mind.”

Calvert-Lewin is doing everything but score

The Leeds striker, who joined the club on a free transfer in the summer, has attracted praise from Daniel Farke for the way he has led the line.

He has provided a physical outlet at the top of the pitch for his Leeds teammates and has been consistently winning his aerial duels.

He is also getting into the right positions inside the penalty box, and Leeds have been deliberately putting in more crosses inside the box to exploit Calvert-Lewin’s ability to get to the end of headers.

However, the striker is not being clinical enough and has been snatching at some of his chances inside the penalty box.

Leeds need Calvert-Lewin to be more effective inside the box and finish off the chances that are being created. The Whites are not blessed with several creative players in their squad, so they need their striker to be more clinical in front of goal.

The Yorkshire giants do not have another striker like Calvert-Lewin in their squad, and they will have to wait until the winter window to find another solution.

Jordan is right to suggest that if Calvert-Lewin scores on Friday night, Leeds are more than likely to win the game against West Ham.
