**Amongst the dismal emotions experienced on Monday night against Brentford, a name which was shamed in the London Stadium was Andy Irving.**
Originally a player who never received an announcement, and throughout his small appearances and pre-season impact, he slowly became a hero amongst fans, but after receiving a Premier League start, it became quickly apparent how off the pace he was, and he was heckled until his eventual substitution.
The idea to even play Andy Irving was seen as brave, and many were shocked at the decision. His moments off play made him look slow, and he almost became a statue watching the ball go past him as Nuno’s side attempted to play quick football.
His eventual departure from the pitch in the 61st minute was met with Cheers from the remaining fans at the stadium, yet a further negative reaction would follow as the arrival of Guido Rodriguez to the pitch saw Boo’s that could be heard even on TV!
The Scots stats also prove how poor his performance was, a grand total of 0 successful dribbles and only achieving a 20% successful cross rate \[1/5\] really makes you question why the likes of Magassa or Potts didn’t start the game, considering they’d provide anything better than what Irving did on the night.
The Hammers are in serious need of quick midfielders who are capable of moving with the ball, have the passion and energy to fight in struggling moments where the surrounding players might need someone to help, and all of the above is not what Irving is capable of doing.
Against Leeds, Andy Irving can’t be anywhere near the starting squad and the likes of Freddie Potts or Magassa must start, otherwise, we’ll be waiting for our impending doom at Elland Road
