'Spectacular' move on the horizon as Man United target Barcelona star

Manchester United are reportedly considering a spectacular move for Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski next summer.

Lewandowski's contract with the Catalan giants is due to expire next June; there is an option for the La Liga champions to extend his deal for a further 12 months, but it is understood that this will be the 37-year-old's final season at Camp Nou.

The Poland international, who is currently on the sidelines with a muscular injury, has scored four times in nine appearances for Barcelona at the start of the 2025-26 campaign.

Meanwhile, the striker has a record of 105 goals and 20 assists in 156 appearances for the Catalan side since making the move from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2022.

However, Barcelona are said to have concerns over Lewandowski's fitness issues this term, while they allegedly believe that he no longer has the capabilities to press from the front due to his age.

Man United 'considering' move for Barcelona's Lewandowski

A number of clubs have been credited with an interest in Lewandowski, with Atletico Madrid thought to be ready to offer him the chance to remain in Spain.

Al-Nassr, meanwhile, have also been credited with an interest, with Cristiano Ronaldo said to be pressing for the Saudi Arabian outfit to sign the experienced forward next year.

However, according to the Daily Star, there is also interest from the Premier League in the shape of Man United, with the Red Devils believed to be considering making a move in 2026.

Lewandowski revealed in August that he had agreed to make the move to Man United in 2012 while representing Borussia Dortmund, but a switch ultimately fell through.

"To Manchester United I decided and said yes," he told BBC Sport. "I wanted to join Manchester United, to see Alex Ferguson.

"They could not sell me. Because they knew if I stayed they could earn more money, and that I could wait maybe one or two more years. But it is true that I said yes to Manchester United.

"Maybe it could be a regret [not to play in the Premier League]. But when I am looking back [having] played for Bayern Munich, Dortmund and now Barcelona I have to say I am very happy with my career. I don't have this kind of feeling that I missed something, because every move or decision... I made because I wanted it."

Manchester United's Benjamin Sesko on August 17, 2025

Benjamin Sesko could benefit from Lewandowski's arrival

Man United signed Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig over the summer, and the Slovenia international has scored twice for the 20-time English champions since his arrival.

Joshua Zirkzee is being heavily linked with an exit, though, and Man United would be short in the final third of the field if the Netherlands international moves on, so a new striker will surely be needed in 2026.

It is difficult to imagine the Red Devils investing heavily in another young forward, so Lewandowski might be the perfect arrival, as he could help Sesko in his own pursuit of greatness.

Lewandowski has been one of the outstanding strikers in world football over the last decade, and there is no question that he could still contribute for Man United on the field, but it might be the knowledge that he would undoubtedly pass onto Sesko that could prove to be the most valuable part of the deal for Ruben Amorim's side.
