Manchester United loanee Marcus Rashford has said that the chance to play in El Clasico against Real Madrid is one of the reasons he made the move to Barcelona in the summer, and has also made an admission about his best position.

The forward joined the Spanish giants on a loan deal from United in the summer transfer window. Barcelona have the option to make the deal permanent next year for a fee of £25million, plus £5million in bonuses.

Rashford continued to impress as he scored a brace in his side’s 6-1 Champions League win over Olympiacos on Tuesday.

Despite previous assertions from Rashford himself that his best position is on the left, he excelled in a more central position against the Greek side.

After the game, Rashford admitted: "It could be my best performance with Barca. I'm ready to bring out the best in me in the team," he told UEFA.

"I prefer to play on the wing, but I don't care. I intend to help and do the best I can."

The comments come after Barcelona boss Hansi Flick backed Rashford to excel in a central role.

"Marcus can be a No.9 or a No.11. When we think of him, we value the fact that he can play in more than one position," he told TNT Sport.

"He has given us a lot of positives and, of course, he can play as a centre forward."

Injury to Ferran Torres saw Rashford moved centrally against Olympiacos. But Torres' recovery means he could be moved back out wide in the upcoming El Clasico against Real Madrid.

Barca make the journey to the Bernabeu on Sunday to face their bitter rivals. It's an occasion that Rashford is looking forward to.

"The Clasico is a great game and that's why I've come here, for this number of games," he said. "I am looking forward to it, I hope we win."

Since moving to Barca from United, where he was not part of pre-season preparations, Rashford has scored five times and provided a further six assists in 12 appearances for the club. He will hope to add to those numbers against Real Madrid at the weekend.
