Jorrel Hato will not be a big-money flop at Chelsea, and they absolutely have a plan for the defender.
That’s according to Jeffrey Bruma, [via NOS](https://nos.nl/artikel/2587366-hato-hoeft-zich-absoluut-geen-zorgen-te-maken-over-reservebeurten-bij-chelsea), who is not at all concerned about the defender’s situation since his move in the summer.
Hato joined Chelsea in a €44m move from Ajax in the summer transfer window after establishing himself as a rising star with the Dutch giants.
He’s been in and out of Enzo Maresca’s plans since.
In the Premier League so far, he’s played four of eight games, two as a starter and two as a substitute.
It’s perhaps a disappointing situation for the 19-year-old. Hato might have fancied his chances of being a regular given his performances in the Netherlands.
Chelsea have a long term plan

Indeed, an injury to Levi Colwill and other defenders in the squad should have opened up a spot for him to claim his place. Instead, it appears that Chelsea and Maresca are taking it slowly with the player. That’s perfectly fine according to Bruma.
_“They have a plan for him,”_ he said.
_“They bring in young lads at a steady pace. You see that with Hato too. He’s gradually getting more minutes. Hato has absolutely nothing to worry about._
_“They’re not paying such a large sum for nothing. They see him as a pillar for the future. He’s not a player for now, but he is for the coming years._
_“He was Ajax’s youngest-ever captain and had been a driving force for several seasons. I was brought in for the future, for Chelsea’s first team. Hato needs to be patient. He’s at such a big club and needs to gradually get more minutes.”_
