The Indianapolis Colts have emerged as one of the NFL’s biggest surprises through the first two months of the 2025 season.
Sitting at 6-1 entering Week 8 and riding a three-game win streak, Indianapolis owes much of its success to an unexpected source.
Quarterback Daniel Jones, once written off after his turbulent tenure with the New York Giants, has become the steady force driving the Colts’ resurgence.
His transformation has finally drawn national recognition, with former NFL MVP Rich Gannon recently offering candid thoughts on the quarterback’s remarkable turnaround.
Gannon highlighted the importance of stability and belief in Jones’ resurgence during his appearance on SiriusXM NFL Radio.
“He’s playing with confidence. I think he’s got a coach that believes in him, a football team that has been supportive and believes they can win with him. And he’s just playing with great confidence right now. And I think you mentioned the numbers. I mean, he’s taking care of the ball, he’s making good decisions, he’s putting his team in a position to have a chance to win, to run the ball well. The play-action game’s been very effective. They’ve been good on 3rd down, they’ve been good down in the scoring zone. There’s a reason why they lead to National Football League in scoring,” Gannon said.

Jones has operated with precision and confidence inside Shane Steichen’s offensive system, syncing seamlessly with Jonathan Taylor, Tyler Warren, and Michael Pittman Jr.
Through seven games, he has thrown for 1,790 yards with 10 touchdowns and only three interceptions while completing 71.0 percent of his passes.
That completion rate ranks among the highest in the league, placing Jones firmly in the Comeback Player of the Year conversation.
His ability to protect the football and make sound decisions has allowed Indianapolis to lead the NFL in scoring.
The Colts have thrived on third downs and in the red zone, two areas where Jones struggled throughout his six years with the Giants.
His chemistry with the offensive line has been critical, giving him time to execute play-action concepts and distribute the ball effectively.
Indianapolis’ balanced attack has kept defenses honest, allowing Jones to operate without carrying the entire offensive burden.
This version of Jones looks nothing like the one New York fans remember, and the league is beginning to take notice.
