Pistons' starting lineup projected to include a local face with Jaden Ivey out injured

The Detroit Pistons added 30 wins in 2024-25 from the year before.

What will they do for an encore?

That question begins to be answered on Wednesday night, when the Pistons open the season on the road against the Chicago Bulls.

Cade Cunningham will try and lead Detroit back to the playoffs, and potentially in a higher spot than the 6-seed they were last season.

The Pistons will have to do it early on without speedy guard Jaden Ivey, who is out with an injury.

That created one hole in what was otherwise an established starting lineup.

The four obvious starters for the Pistons are Cunningham, Ausar Thompson, Tobias Harris and Jalen Duren.

The expected fifth starter is Duncan Robinson, the former D-III star turned University of Michigan standout turned NBA sharpshooter.

Before now, Robinson had spent his entire NBA career with the Miami Heat.

The Pistons signed Robinson this summer to a three-year, $48 million contract.

He's a perfect fit next to Cunningham, who is a ball-dominant distributor who can operate that much better with space on the floor around him. Given that Thompson isn't a good shooter at all, Robinson is a good balance to help space the floor along with Harris.

Once Ivey gets back, that'll create a different pace to the Pistons' offense, but Robinson should still prove useful then, too.
