ESPN's Seahawks trade rumor gives Cowboys, Eagles, Lions clear target for upgrade

While the Seattle Seahawks don't profile as a seller ahead of the Nov. 4 NFL trade deadline with a 5-2 record, there could be one player they trade away.

That player is cornerback Riq Woolen, who has been the subject of trade rumors since last month when NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that the belief is Woolen will be available.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler is adding to those trade rumors after reporting that people around the league believe Woolen could be dealt ahead of the trade deadline next month.

Here's what Fowler wrote.

Multiple league execs have Woolen earmarked as a strong trade candidate leading into the deadline. "They've been wanting to move him for a while," one executive said. "He doesn't fit what [Mike Macdonald] wants to do." Woolen would be best served going to a team that can utilize his man-coverage traits.

A former Pro Bowler, Woolen has cemented himself as a viable starter in the NFL. He is in the midst of a down season, but he still has more-than respectable coverage numbers, with a completion rate allowed of 57.1% and a passer rating of 91.8.

Three teams that immediately come to mind as possible suitors for Woolen are the Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles and Detroit Lions.

The Lions have been ravaged by injuries at cornerback this season. Terrion Arnold and D.J. Reed are both hurt, their backups are hurt, and their backups' backups are hurt. Woolen would offer a starting option now and depth for the rest of the season.

The Cowboys have not gotten what they expected out of free-agent signing Kaiir Elam, and both Trevon Diggs and DaRon Bland have had injury issues in recent years. Woolen would immediately step into a starting role opposite Diggs and provide an upgrade over Elam.

The Eagles are also weak at one cornerback spot, as Kelee Ringo and Adoree' Jackson have proven they aren't the answers across from Quinyon Mitchell. Perhaps Jakorian Bennett will prove to be the guy for that role, but he's hurt.

At 26, Woolen is young enough to be a long-term solution for all three teams, but he will have to be extended first, as the former fifth-round pick is in the final year of his contract.
