“He’s Turning the Corner”: Las Vegas Raiders HC Pete Carroll Shows No Signs Of Benching QB Geno …

The Las Vegas Raiders have a 2-5 record so far this season. There has been a lot of frustration from the fanbase with the way Geno Smith has been at quarterback and with the way head coach Pete Carroll has handled things this season.

The Raiders will be on a bye week this week. They will then face the Jacksonville Jaguars after the bye week. Will Las Vegas make a quarterback change from Smith to Kenny Pickett after the bye week? The odds of that happening anytime soon appear to be slim.

Las Vegas traded for quarterback Smith from the Seattle Seahawks in the offseason. Smith and Carroll used to work together when they were in Seattle. They have a very good relationship with each other. The head coach is showing no signs of benching him for Pickett anytime soon. Carroll said about Smith,

“I think he’s turning the corner. He’s as competitive as ever. He’s frustrated because we want to win, and we want to play big and all that. …. He’s ready to go, and we need to build it up around him. He can’t do all of it by himself.”

Smith this season with the Raiders has completed 65.8% of his passes for 1,417 yards, seven touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. He has not had a very good year with Las Vegas. If they continue to lose games with him, there is a chance that they may turn things over to Pickett.

There is no doubt that they are going to have to potentially draft a quarterback in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft. Smith is 35 years old. He has been a very good story for the past few years, but he may not have anything left in the tank.
