Aston Villa face Go Ahead Eagles in the Europa League on Thursday evening, at a time when Storm Benjamin is expected to be battering areas of north west Europe.
It’s not the greatest accident of timing for the UEFA match, but things may work out reasonably well for Aston Villa and their Dutch opponents.
KNMI (Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute) is the authority in charge for Netherlands weather alerts. They’ve issued an orange warning for Thursday, that’s equivalent to amber in the UK and would mean severe weather but is a level down from the highest alert.
As explained by NOS, the orange warning for strong winds is restricted to the west and north of the Netherlands. The warning period starts at 6pm, which will be during the match.
Thankfully for Aston Villa, Go Ahead Eagles play in Deventer, which is to the south and east of those warnings. Therefore, it wouldn’t appear like the Aston Villa match is in danger at this point.
That said, Deventer is still under a code yellow warning, as is the rest of the Netherlands.
KNMI will continue to update. Go Ahead Eagles are in Deventer, which is in Overijssel province. This takes you direct to warning status for that area.
