Newcastle United official makes surprise appearance after Champions League win

Newcastle United toasted their Champions League win over Benfica with their traditional team photo.

Ever since Eddie Howe arrived at the club, the Magpies have taken a team photo after every victory. They normally take place in the dressing room, and that was the case on Tuesday night after Newcastle United beat Benfica in the Champions League.

In the aftermath of Anthony Gordon’s incredible performance, he and the rest of the Newcastle United squad and coaching staff posed for a photo in the home dressing room inside St James’ Park.

There were beaming smiles from the likes of Bruno Guimaraes and Jacob Murphy, while one man was making his first ever appearance in the dressing room team photo.

Ross Wilson joins team photo after beating Benfica

Ross Wilson became Newcastle United sporting director earlier this month, and has now witnessed his first Toon victory since arriving.

Having been in the stands for Newcastle’s loss against Brighton, Ross Wilson will have been much happier watching the Magpies compete in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

He watched Newcastle United ease past Benfica, before joining the players and staff in the dressing room. Wilson was even part of the post-victory photo, standing in a suit alongside members of the Magpies’ backroom staff.

It is great to see the club’s latest official getting involved. It is difficult to recall Paul Mitchell or Dan Ashworth regularly doing the same when they were sporting director.

Lewis Hall also spotted in Newcastle United celebrations

As well as Wilson, there was also an appearance from Toon defender Lewis Hall.

The 21-year-old is currently out of action with a hamstring injury, having not featured since the Champions League win over Union Saint-Gilloise in Brussels.

It is good to see Hall continuing to socialise with the group despite his absence, with the left-back hoping to return before the November international break.

Amid Hall’s injury, Dan Burn is being forced to play at left-back. It is not the 33-year-old’s preferred position, but he has coped admirably with the change so far.
