Everton boss David Moyes '100%' backed to replace Brendan Rodgers at Celtic next summer

Si Ferry wouldn’t be against David Moyes replacing Brendan Rodgers as Celtic boss next year.

The Everton manager rejoined the club in January 2025 having enjoyed a successful stint between 2002 and 2013.

After leaving Goodison Park first time around, Moyes went on to manage Manchester United, Real Sociedad, Sunderland and then West Ham United twice.

Moyes is back at Everton, who are currently 12th in the Premier League after eight games with a record of three wins, three defeats and two draws.

Moyes started his professional playing career at Celtic, making 34 appearances before departing in 1983 for Cambridge United in search of more game time.

And now he’s being backed to return to Celtic Park as manager.

Si Ferry advocates Moyes to replace Celtic boss Rodgers

Brendan Rodgers will see his contract expire at Celtic next summer, and 67 Hail Hail understands the club’s hierarchy and the Northern Irishman are not close to agreeing fresh terms.

It seems increasingly likely his second spell will end in 2026, with Open Goal host Ferry advocating for Ange Postecoglou and Moyes to be Rodgers’ replacement over the last few days.

MORE CELTIC STORIES

Motherwell midfielder Andy Halliday read out a comment from a fan on the latest Open Goal livestream that said Moyes could be the manager Scotland targets next after Steve Clarke.

Here’s the conversation that followed:

Ferry: “And Celtic, nah?”

Halliday: “Would you take Moyes at Celtic?”

Ferry: “Uh huh, 100 percent. We were arguing about it the other day and he (Paul Slane) said he wouldn’t.

Halliday: “Would you not?”

Slane: “No, no, no, no. I said I was surprised you (Ferry) would with the way you like to see football getting played. He doesn’t play out (from the back) does he?”

Ferry: “I think he plays alright football. He doesn’t play out but I think once the ball lands they play, don’t they? I don’t think (Jack) Grealish and all that wouldn’t play for a manager who doesn’t play.

“He’s got the third-best win record in Premier League history, or something like that.”

Moyes is a Premier League managerial great

This wouldn’t be a bad appointment whatsoever. Moyes is an extremely experienced manager who has bossed well over 700 Premier League games.

That places him third on that leaderboard behind only Sir Alex Ferguson (810) and Arsene Wenger (828).

The Scotsman is also third for the most wins and points gained as a Premier League manager, as Ferry alluded to.

He is one of only three managers in the league’s history to earn more than 1,000 points, again behind Ferguson and Wenger.
