Dropkick Murphys' Ken Casey Praises "True American" Super Bowl Performer Bad Bunny

Dropkick Murphys singer Ken Casey has thrown his support behind Bad Bunny, calling the superstar Puerto Rican musician a “true American” amid MAGA backlash at his selection to be the halftime performer at the Super Bowl in February.

Last month, Bad Bunny was revealed as the headliner of the Super Bowl LX Halftime Show, set for February 8th at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. The announcement was immediately derided by members of the Trump administration, with threats to send ICE to the stadium.

Casey, who has not been shy about his criticism of President Trump both onstage and off, was asked by Rolling Stone about his thoughts on Bad Bunny being named the Super Bowl LX performer, responding, “I had never really listened to Bad Bunny’s music, but after his performance in Happy Gilmore 2, I will go to the mat for that guy. God bless his heart. He is a true, true American.”

The punk frontman went on to say, “[The administration] just wants to control everything, every narrative. There’s way bigger problems in the world than who is at the halftime show at the Super Bowl.”

In the same interview, Casey also called for other punk acts to be more outspoken, saying, “I by no means think that punk should be uniformly one thing. But the punk that I was raised to listen to, it should be speaking up against abuses in the government.”

He continued, “Obviously something that’s near and dear to our heart is workers’ rights. At every level, Trump will turn his back on working people in favor of the elite and the wealthy. … So, on behalf of punk rock, on behalf of regular people, on behalf of America as a whole, we feel like it’s our duty to speak out.”

As part of his ongoing criticism of the Trump administration, Casey has joined the advisory board for Home of the Brave, a nonprofit founded by onetime Republicans who aren’t afraid to speak out against the president.

In a press release, Casey stated, “Growing up here in Massachusetts, you learn to never take shit from a bully. And if a bully’s in your face, you stand up and push back. That’s why I’ve been so loud about how Trump’s ruining our country.”

He added, “Trump’s a bully who’s bad for America, and it’s time to stand up to him. That’s why I’m part of Home of the Brave, a new project telling the stories of the very Americans who Trump’s awful agenda is impacting … Bullies like Trump only win when we’re silent, so speak up today.”

Dropkick Murphys recently announced their annual St. Patrick’s Day tour for 2026, kicking off February 9th in Portland, Maine, and running through a five-show residency in Boston in mid March. Pick up tickets here.
