The New York Jets are 0-7, and in dire need of some change. While Aaron Glenn's job is safe, the Jets could still look to shake things up. Whether it's by trading away players at the deadline or making a benching, the Jets need to do something.
One of the most likely scenarios for the Jets is that Justin Fields is benched. Owner Woody Johnson made it clear that he wants out of the Fields experience. But not everyone feels the same.
ESPN analyst Dan Graziano believes the Jets should still stick with Fields despite the owner's public comments and the poor play. It's an interesting angle, but one that Graziano justified well with a few main talking points.
Jets urged to keep starting Justin Fields despite Woody Johnson being over Fields
"Personally, I don't see the point of going with Taylor. They're 0-7 and not making the playoffs." Graziano writes. "I'd find a way to keep Fields viable and get to the end of the season so you can get a full-year sample on which to judge him."
Sticking with Fields, after his last two performances, won't be easy to justify. Fields had -10 net passing yards against the Denver Broncos, and in Week 7 against the Carolina Panthers, he had 46 passing yards on 12 attempts and two sacks for 21 yards lost, good for a net 25 passing yards.
The Jets benched Fields for Tyrod Taylor, and while the veteran quarterback went on to throw two interceptions, the offense was able to move the ball through the air a lot more consistently than with Fields in the lineup.
However, sticking with Fields does have its merits. As Graziano mentions, "If the Jets sit him for Taylor now, they're effectively giving up on a quarterback whom they guaranteed $30 million in the offseason and indicating the search for a long-term solution will pick up again next spring."

The Jets will likely eye a new starting quarterback in the offseason, whether it's in a trade, free agency, or, more likely, the 2026 NFL Draft. But if they move on from him now, then the Jets would be wasting the $30 million they spent on Fields in the offseason.
While things haven't gone well so far, ending the $30 million experiment at this point might be premature. They already have the $30 million invested in Fields, and might as well continue to try and get something out of him.
He's been one of the worst quarterbacks in the NFL, but Taylor is 36 years old and not the future of the position for the Jets. Fields is 26 years old, and while he's also not likely to be the future of the Jets, the investment is a huge difference for the Jets.
The Jets could make a quarterback as soon as Week 8, but for Graziano, he doesn't think there's a good reason to end the $30 million Fields experience less than eight weeks in. It hasn't gone well, but Fields is younger and has shown more upside than Taylor.
Unfortunately for Graziano, Johnson's public complaints about Fields, combined with Glenn's willingness to make a change, point to the Jets making this quarterback switch soon.
