Report: What people close to Moises Caicedo have said as Chelsea begin contract negotiations

Chelsea supporters are likely to be thrilled with reports that the club are now in talks with Moises Caicedo over a new contract.

Even though Moises Caicedo had a tough start to his Blues career when he joined from Brighton in 2023, he’s developed into one of the world’s elite midfielders.

The 23-year-old defensive midfielder is an expert at breaking up play and covering so much ground. In fairness, he’s also added goals to his game this season by scoring three times in eight Premier League matches.

Frank Leboeuf claims Caicedo may be worth £200m because of how exceptional he’s been at Stamford Bridge.

Moises Caicedo wants to stay at Chelsea as talks begin

Caicedo, who recently changed his agent, is currently under contract on a long-term deal that runs until 2031. Even so, the Ecuador international could be in line for improved terms.

According to GiveMeSport, Chelsea have started discussions with Caicedo about rewarding him with a more lucrative contract.

It is explained that the midfield star has been subject to interest from Spanish giants Real Madrid. However, the Blues recognise he’s a pivotal individual for them, so want to secure his future even further with an improved deal.

The report says that key figures at Chelsea don’t fear the player will look to leave as talks take place. Apparently, the next deal could be for a higher figure or a new bonus structure rather than extending the length of it.

In addition, GMS shares that people close to Caicedo insist the player is not looking to leave Chelsea, who would not entertain any offers.

The strongest Chelsea midfield

When everyone is fit, Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca could have quite a selection headache to make with his strongest midfield.

Regardless, Caicedo has to be the first name on the team sheet for the centre of the park.

We usually see the Blues operate with a deeper midfielder and a box-to-box midfielder, plus a creative number 10 just in front. If everyone is available, Caicedo and Cole Palmer pick themselves as star individuals in the squad.

The third option is a tough pick between Enzo Fernandez, Romeo Lavia and Andrey Santos. At the moment, Fernandez is in the best line-up because of his impressive body of work at Stamford Bridge, but keep an eye out on Lavia’s fitness and the emergence of Santos.
