Jayden Daniels injury news gives Commanders no shot against red-hot Chiefs

The Washington Commanders might be cooked for their Week 8 game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, quarterback Jayden Daniels is dealing with a low-grade hamstring strain and will not play against the Chiefs on Monday night.

"Commanders QB Jayden Daniels, who suffered a low-grade hamstring strain on Sunday, is going to be out for MNF against the Chiefs, sources say," Rapoport reported.

Rapoport adds that Daniels' injury is "not long-term at all," so that's good news, although it remains to be seen if he'll be capable of suiting up in Week 9.

Daniels' absence in Week 8 will mark the third game he has missed this season, and it also means Marcus Mariota, who struggled in Week 7, will start again.

Mariota is a solid backup, but he is also a massive downgrade from Daniels, which does not bode well for the Commanders keeping up with the red-hot Chiefs, who could have a field day with Washington's suspect defense.

The good news for Mariota is that both of his top wide receivers, Terry McLaurin and Deebo Samuel, are expected to return to practice, so he could have more weapons at his disposal on Monday.
