Aston Villa could secure a crucial boost which will be a major blow to one of their Premier League rivals

Aston Villa have boasted one of the most attractive projects in the Premier League over recent years, and the club will hope that a few shaky months are now firmly behind them.

The Villans’ failure to qualify for the Champions League on the final day of last season appeared at one stage to have proven costly, as they were severely hamstrung by PSR in the summer transfer window and saw many of their biggest and most important stars heavily linked with moves away. A poor start to the new season only worsened matters.

But five successive wins across the league and Europa League have gone a long way to ease the growing fears of the Villa Park faithful. Their calm could soon turn to ecstasy, as a latest piece of news may suggest that things may soon be set to improve off the pitch, too, securing the continuation of an outstanding Villans generation.

Fabrizio Romano reveals key Aston Villa contract updates

Fabrizio Romano has claimed on X that two key new Aston Villa contracts have taken steps towards completion, in an update which will be a relief to Villa fans as the turnaround to their season continues to gather momentum.

The two players in question are captain John McGinn and key man Morgan Rogers. This comes after an agreement was reached for a new deal for full-back Matty Cash running until 2029, and McGinn is reported to be next with his deal “almost done” according to Romano. Attention will then turn to England star Rogers, with talks said to be in their “early stages”.

Romano wrote: “After Matty Cash new deal in place until June 2029, Aston Villa also work on new contracts for both McGinn and Rogers. New deal almost ready for McGinn… …while talks are at early stages with Morgan Rogers after #AVFC rejected several approaches in the summer.”

Blow to Chelsea and European giants if Rogers signs new deal

Interest in 23-year-old Rogers has been well documented in recent months, with London rivals Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur amongst those who made enquiries for the ex-Middlesbrough star over the summer.

According to recent reports by Caught Offside, Chelsea are amongst a host of top clubs tracking Rogers, with others mentioned as holding an interest including PSG and Liverpool. Villa are reported to value their prize asset at £80 million, a figure which will surely only increase if he signs a lucrative new deal at Villa Park.

Emery will be adamant at the importance of Rogers as the face of Villa’s next generation if they are to force their way into any ‘big six’ conversations over the coming years. The gap in financial power the Villans will need to make up is huge, a gap which can only truly be compensated for by success on the pitch, and a gem like Rogers is extremely rare to come across without breaking the bank.

The player will likely have the final say as to where he ends up in the long-term, and so if he is to commit his future to the West Midlands outfit by securing a new deal in the near future, that is an extremely promising sign.
