Sunderland are reportedly targeting Rio Ave forward André Luiz after his impressive start to the Portuguese season. According toBruno Andrade from ESPN Brazil, the Premier League club are very keen on signing the Brazilian attacker when the transfer window opens in January.
The 23-year-old Flamengo academy graduate has been one of the top performers in Liga Portugal so far. He has scored four goals and provided three assists in just eight league matches, showing pace, strength and efficiency in front of goal.
These numbers have put him among the best young players in the competition and attracted scouts from Sunderland and elsewhere in England.
André Luiz is currently valued at €2.5m by Transfermarkt. His contract with Rio Ave runs until 2028, and Flamengo no longer hold any share of his rights. The forward moved from Flamengo to Estrela da Amadora in 2023 for €600k. In January 2025, Rio Ave paid €2.2m to make the deal permanent.
Sunderland, who are seventh in the Premier League, could strengthen their attack in the winter market. The club have made a strong start and see the Brazilian as a smart, affordable addition. Talks are not yet underway, but a move could develop once the January window opens.
